Each day Jesus was teaching at the temple, and each evening he went out to spend the night on the hill called the Mount of Olives, and all the people came early in the morning to hear him at the temple.

Luke 21:37-38 (NIV)

Lord, there is a theme ringing in my spirit this morning: take time for refreshing with Jesus. You were but days before You would lay down Your life for us. Yet, on the one hand You continued doing the work of the Father, teaching the masses. But, You also made it Your business to steal away.

Your Words are ringing in the depths of my soul right now, “We must work while it’s day for when night cometh no man shall work (John 9:4).” Though I understand the redemptive significance of that verse, this day it has a real practical significance to me: I must covet my time to steal away with You and find my soul’s refreshment.

What jumps out to me is that this text declares “each day.” This speaks of an intentionality and purpose driven motivation to find time away from the crowds, away from the hustle and bustle of life, away from pressing demands, to sit quietly with the Father. You did this all the time (Luke 5:15-16). I must do the same.

So today, as I start this day off, calm my soul. As I quiet my spirit and remove the concerns and cares before me, I ask that You would come into the garden of my heart and sit with me. Fill me with Your presence. Satisfy my longings. And prepare me for what You have for me this day. But most of all, grant me divine fellowship with You at Your feet. Amen.
