Whoever is faithful in a very little is faithful also in much; and whoever is dishonest in a very little is dishonest also in much.
Luke 16:10 (NRSV)
Father God, I pray today that You would give me the strength to be more faithful. My heart is fully committed to serving You, following after the footsteps of my Savior, being obedient to the guidance and direction as received from the Holy Spirit and revealed in Your Word. For I truly believe that to whom much is given much is required (Luke 12:48). And I have been blessed.
Yet I know that throughout this day I will be confronted with challenges and opportunities that will make the “shortcut” bypassing faithfulness seem appealing. Like the servant in the parable when confronted with the possibility of being cutoff, I too can see me trying to do whatever to take care of myself and those I love. What’s more, I may even find myself thinking those broken thoughts, doubting my convictions, asking that age old question, “Did God truly say?” It is in times like those that I need to be reminded of my call to be faithful.
Father, my desire is to never be in the place of the servant in this parable, called out by You for wasting Your possessions (Luke 16:1). Instead, it is my heartfelt desire to use what You have given to me to steward for the advancement of the Kingdom and the glorification of Your Name. Open my eyes to the opportunities to leverage my time, talent and treasure towards Kingdom building, demonstrating Your love in a tangible way in the lives of others. Remind me to not be so focused on my personal creature comforts that I forget the call to service. Show me how I must live today faithfully for I live to hear those words, “Well done, good and faithful servant. You have been faithful over a little; I will set you over much. Enter into the joy of your master. (Matthew 25:23).” In Jesus’ Name and for the building of His Kingdom I pray. Amen.
