Whoever has the Son has life; whoever does not have the Son of God does not have life.
1 John 5:12 (ESV)
This morning, Lord, I look to live. Not necessarily the way that I have been living, though there is in some cases a real need for me to do so. No. I look to live as You would have me to live. I no longer want to define “life” as I have done so in the past. I want to move away from looking at creature comforts, ambitions, occupation, and even my worldly relationships as the means of defining whether I am living, my quality of living, or even success in living. Those things so often blur my perspective and take my eyes off what truly defines whether I am living the good life. And that is my personal relationship with You.
Lord Jesus, in You is true life (John 14:6). In You I live, move, and have my being (Acts 17:28). In You I walk in abundance (John 10:10). In You my mind is set on things above (Romans 8:5). In You, I live in peace with others, comforted by You as I comfort them (2 Corinthians 13:11). In You, I am able to keep in step with the Spirit (Galatians 5:25), gaining what this world cannot offer (Philippians 1:21), being what my flesh cannot in and of itself be (John 6:63), and doing what I cannot through my human efforts do (Titus 2:11-14). In You is true living!
Thank You, Lord, for lighting my way to true life (John 1:4). Help me today to walk in it, showing others the joy that I have in You and through You. Continue to remove the anxiety that I play with due to striving for what this world has to offer. Instead, empower me to purposefully strive for the contentment and peace that You have promised to all who call upon Your Name, as I grow closer in my relationship with You. I love You, Jesus. And I am so very grateful for this life that You have given me in You. Amen.
