For no matter how many promises God has made, they are “Yes” in Christ. And so through him the “Amen” is spoken by us to the glory of God.

2 Corinthians 1:20 (NIV)

Father, this morning my soul is encouraged and convicted. Encouraged because in Your Son, my Savior, all the promises You have made are a resounding “Yes!” This means that as Your child, found in Him, I shall be the recipient of Your divine favor. Hallelujah! That’s something to shout about!

Convicted because I often, naively, walk around believing that this truth means I will not have trials and tribulations. Jesus Himself promised me I would (John 16:33). And on top of that, I often find myself with this mindset believing that the fulfillment of these promises is the manifestation in my life of the tangible things of this world. Nothing could be further from the truth! This stuff is nothing more than a foretaste, the appetizer to the true feast – and that is being found in Jesus Christ Himself!

Being found in Him is the true manifestation of Your promises. Being declared Your child, having fellowship with You, Him, and the Holy Spirit – being one with my God – that is the promise that all promises point to. That You are moving amongst us, You are our God and we are Your people (Leviticus 26:12), that You have loved us with an everlasting love (Jeremiah 31:3), and that we know You, and You have forgiven us (Jeremiah 31:34), this is the realization and fulfillment of all Your promises, and all of this was made so in Christ Jesus! The rest of the creature comforts of this world mean nothing if I have this. And I do!

So today, I loosen my grip on the things of this world. Yes, I find joy in them. And in many cases they are good. Yet they are temporal and passing. Instead, I set my eyes on things above (Colossians 3:2), knowing that my true life is hidden in my Savior. Today, it is my aim to be found in Him (Philippians 3:7-9) and He in me, for He is my hope of glory (Colossians 1:27). And in Him all of Your promises find their “yes” and “amen”. And to that, I say, “Amen.” Thank You, Father.
