Samson went to Gaza, and there he saw a prostitute, and he went in to her. The Gazites were told, “Samson has come here.” And they surrounded the place and set an ambush for him all night at the gate of the city. They kept quiet all night, saying, “Let us wait till the light of the morning; then we will kill him.” But Samson lay till midnight, and at midnight he arose and took hold of the doors of the gate of the city and the two posts, and pulled them up, bar and all, and put them on his shoulders and carried them to the top of the hill that is in front of Hebron.

Judges 16:1-3

Father God, help me not to put myself in a vulnerable position where my witness can be tarnished and my kingdom effectiveness diminished. I realize that the enemy is laying in wait for me. Your Word declares he seeks whom he might devour. The busyness of life can lull me into complacency. Combine that with the temptations of my flesh, I recognize that I can be a prime target for exploitation. This morning I purpose to keep my thoughts focused on Your and Your righteous requirements. I commit myself to guarding my heart against temptations, both external and internal. It is my desire not to put Your delivering power to the test carelessly, but instead to seek Your face in every encounter I have today, asking if it is from You or whether it is the outworking of my own broken desires. Help me to stay this course. Surround me with Your ministering spirits in order that I might be able to lean on them for support. Strengthen my resolve to resist the devil. Enable me to walk uprightly before You that my living this day might bring You praise. In Jesus’ Name I pray. Amen.
