The meek shall obtain fresh joy in the LORD, and the poor among mankind shall exult in the Holy One of Israel.

Isaiah 29:19

Lord, You know how much I love fresh fruit. There is nothing like a ripe watermelon, sweet grapes, or a savory pineapple. Combine them all in a bowl with an assortment of berries, and I have a rainbow of colors that delights my eyes and satisfies my pallet. Yet, when this combination lingers too long in the refrigerator, or worse, out in the open, then what was once a site to behold becomes a foul stench only to be discarded.

My soul rejoices this morning that You are like that fruit salad and not. Like it, when my spirit catches wind of Your presence it jumps for joy, anxiously waiting for the opportunity to taste and see that You are good, enjoying the splendor of the differing flavors You are serving up. Yet unlike that bowl of fruit, You never spoil, Your love never wilts nor molds. Instead, the rich assortment of Your goodness is new every morning, the flavors that You give to Your children fresh and delicious to our soul. Like the manna You gave to the children of Israel, there is no need to store it up and hoard it for times of leanness. In Your faithfulness You provide what we stand in the need of now in the moment, urging us to savor every bite of Your love, with the knowledge of knowing there is more to come.

Lord, I thank You this morning for fresh joy. Continue to remind me to come to the foot of Your throne and sample what You have for me. Urge me to put behind me all the troubles and cares that I quickly take upon myself, and just savor being in Your presence. I thank You this morning for adopting me into Your family and giving me a seat at Your table. Thank You for the freshness of the joy You have given me this day. I worship You and praise Your Holy Name. Amen.
