With joy you will draw water from the wells of salvation.

Isaiah 12:3 (ESV)

Lord Jesus, as I was reminded this morning, I was at one time dead in my trespasses and sins, doing what was right in my own eyes, pleasing my flesh and violating Your righteous Law, but God (Ephesians 2:1-4a). I was lost, but God. I was in the grasp of the enemy, but God. I was destined for damnation, but God. Yes, I was on the outside looking in but God, rich in mercy, sent YOU, and now I can declare, even as Mary did, “…from now on all generations will call me blessed; for he who is mighty has done great things for me, and holy is his name!” (Luke 1:48b-49)

LORD, though You were angry with me. Yet, You turned away from Your wrath and brought Your glorious comfort to me (Isaiah 12:1). You saw my need and the insufficiencies of my recompense. And acknowledging it to the Father – not for His knowledge but mine – You embraced the human form He made for You (Hebrews 10:6) and died for me in my place (John 3:16). And now, daily, I rush to You with my deep thirst and drink from the living water that flows from You (John 7:37-38)! You have turned the parched land of my soul into an oasis, springing forth with life (Psalm 107:35)! Lord Jesus, my soul thirsts for You (Psalm 143:6)!

As I make my way towards Christmas, I dip my soul into that blessed well of salvation that is mine because to Your glorious sacrifice. As I draw from that fountain, I sing Your praises because I know what I once was. And though I am not yet completely who You have created me to be, my soul savors the refreshing journey that I am on with You, following and clinging to Your every step. Hallelujah! Glory to Your Name! Amen!
