Finally, be strong in the Lord and in the strength of his might.
Ephesians 6:10
Lord Jesus, as I reflect upon the close of this year anxiously anticipating what the new year will bring, I am reminded of the old saying, “It is not how you start; it’s how you finish.” Though I started this year out with a bang, there have been times when I have been overwhelmed and felt like quitting. People have disappointed me and I have disappointed them. There have been times of frustration and personal setbacks. I have not accomplished everything I have wished. Yes, I had success, but not what I would have wanted.
Yet, I am reminded that this Christian race is not a sprint, but a marathon, where we are called daily to bring our bodies into submission (1 Corinthians 9:27). That includes my thoughts. You continually encourage me to put the past behind me and to press forward towards where You are calling me (Philippians 3:12-14). And, as I was reminded this morning, You are in me, for me and with me regardless of my circumstances. Because of this very real reality, nothing can stop me (Isaiah 54:17) because I win with You (Romans 8:37).
So, as I close this year out, help me to finish it strong. I shed my strength that I might take up Yours. Help me to get across the finish line of this year in the power of Your might, reflecting Your presence in my life, enabling me to live and love others in a tangible way.
I thank You that You have brought me to this point of standing on the threshold of a new year. Help me to finish in a way that demonstrates Your love for me and presence with me that others might see You in me and glorify Your Name. Thank You, Jesus. Amen.
