The Lord your God is with you, he is mighty to save. He will take great delight in you, he will quiet you with his love, he will rejoice over you with singing.”

Zephaniah 3:17 (NIV84)

Lord Jesus, my great Immanuel, that is “God with us,” this morning my soul finds so much joy in that single, common occurrence that happened over two thousand years ago! What looked like a typical pregnancy and child delivery for the time was actually a life-altering, history making event – the Creator of the universe took on human form! And with that monumental episode came the fulfillment of Isaiah’s prophecy concerning You (Isaiah 7:14)! Though You had always been with us, Your virgin birth was the revelatory sign that You would always be with us! Hallelujah! And not just that. But through Your life, death, and resurrection You save us! You save me! Glory to Your Name!

My soul takes delight in knowing today that in Your loving, watchful eyes see me, take great delight in me (Psalm 147:11), and when I am going through, calm my fears (Isaiah 41:10). You have exceeded all of my worldly stopgaps, satisfying my soul with eternal pleasures and a joy that is indescribable! To say that You are the Lover of my soul does not give full justice to the depth of Your love for me nor mine for You. The words of Zephaniah paint a glorious picture of how I see You today: “…he will rejoice over you with singing.” There, in my mind’s eye, I can see You, like a doting parent, holding me in Your arms (Deuteronomy 33:27), looking upon my face, and singing me a song. The very songs that resonate in my spirit are but words You place in there as You, Yourself, sing to calm my soul!

I worship You, my great Jehovah Shalom! You are my joy and my comfort. You are the “Peace Be Stiller” of my soul! In You and by You I have everything I need for life and godliness (2 Peter 1:3). You are my all-in-all plus nothing! Thank You for Your undeserved, unfathomable, unchangeable love towards me. Thank You for coming not only into this world but also into my life. I worship You and glorify You! Amen!
