But Eli called Samuel and said, “Samuel, my son.” And he said, “Here I am.” And Eli said, “What was it that he told you? Do not hide it from me. May God do so to you and more also if you hide anything from me of all that he told you.” So Samuel told him everything and hid nothing from him. And he said, “It is the LORD. Let him do what seems good to him.”

1 Samuel 3:16-18

Lord, give me a sensitive heart today that is broken and repentant when I see that I do not please You. It is so easy for me to resign myself to the place of just saying, “God will do what He is going to do,” especially when I am getting what I know I deserve. Yet, I also know that You love me so much that You sent Your Son to die for me. I know that it grieves Your heart when I am wayward; that it is Your heart’s desire that I would repent and come home. So as You reveal to me throughout this day how I have fallen short, give me a heart that truly understands the magnitude of my sinfulness and how it separates me from You. Help me to fully comprehend the chasm that my sin creates, and squeeze my heart, reminding me not only of the love I have for You, but more so the love You have for me. Show me when I am settling, and give me no rest until I am reconciled with You. In Jesus’ Name I pray. Amen.
