Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith…

Hebrews 12:2

Lord Jesus, as I think about those with whom I am in relationship with, I often find that it is my desire to write their story and control their choices. As I see the obstacles that they are confronted with or the peril that awaits them down the road, I want to make their decisions, believing that I can ensure they end up “happily ever after.” Yet, what I have found more often than not is that my choices are no better than theirs. And worse, when they do listen to me and it goes awry, not only are we mourning, but I have lost credibility in their eyes and mind. The good news is that You are the One Who writes the story, and not only do You set the plot, but You know how it will end. And I trust Your authorship better than my own! As I reflect upon those I love, care about, and am in association with, I pray today that You would write the story of their lives, Lord, raise up as You see fit the obstacles, barriers and foes that they must face. Pull from within them that hidden reserve that You have placed in them that will enable them to overcome. As the story of their lives unfold, give them not only antagonists but also protagonists, individuals who believe in them, empowered by Your Spirit to help them in the removal of obstacles and barriers that get in their way. Give them love interests who look past their battle scarred lives and see the inner beauty that You have placed in them. Give them the resolve to endure the hardships that come their way, seeing them as but seasonal, knowing that You are directing behind the scenes, working the unfolding plot for their good and Your glory.  Take their eyes off of what they are going through and pull their eyes on You, Who is calling all of the shots, orchestrating every scene as the story of their lives plays out. Remind them that they are not in control, that all they only own is their efforts and motivations, but You own the results. Help them to live their lives to the fullest that they might hear You say, “Cut. It’s a wrap!” And in that moment experience the joy of having lived a life where You say, “Well done!” Amen.
