When the waters saw you, O God, when the waters saw you, they were afraid; indeed, the deep trembled. The clouds poured out water; the skies gave forth thunder; your arrows flashed on every side. The crash of your thunder was in the whirlwind; your lightnings lighted up the world; the earth trembled and shook. Your way was through the sea, your path through the great waters; yet your footprints were unseen.

Psalm 77:16-19

Father, I am so encouraged and comforted by the image that Asaph provides in the words of this verse. In them I can see the turbulence of the world around me, the discomfort and fear as I make my way down the path that I am going. I sense the fear in the moment, wondering whether I am going to make it. And this is against the backdrop of the psalmist wondering where You are and whether You will turn Your back on him forever. And then he remembers, I remember, that Your way, the path You have laid out for him, for me, is through these storms even though Your footprints are not seen.

Father, my soul is encouraged today knowing that You are in complete and total control. All the situations and circumstances surrounding me are under Your command. This gives me confidence and boldness to go forth. Where You lead me I will follow. Through the storms or through hardships and difficulties of life, I will follow. Today I ask that You would just continue to remind me that though I don’t see You, You are there. Remind me that though I may not see Your fingerprints that Your hand is still on me. Thank You for Your comfort and peace today. I am ready to confront whatever comes my way, whether I see You in it or not, knowing that You are with me!
