For the word of the LORD holds true, and we can trust everything he does. He loves whatever is just and good; the unfailing love of the LORD fills the earth.

Psalms 33:4-5 (NLT)

Lord, as I look at all the craziness in my world, the protests in the streets resulting from the actions of government officials, when I see my leadership demonstrating a lack of trustworthiness and hear of the senseless murder of individuals merely exercising what has been understood to be a fundamental right in this land, I cannot help but become discouraged and concerned. In the back of my mind I find myself asking where are You in all of this? When will You intervene and ensure that justice flows down like waters and righteousness like an ever-flowing stream (Amos 5:24)?

And then, You remind me of Your faithfulness, of the truth of Your Word, and reinforce that I can and must trust You. There is a reason for all that is transpiring in my world, a purpose beyond what is evident on the surface. You have a divine plan that You are executing, and in its unfolding You are ensuring that whatever is just and good is intertwined in this glorious plan of Yours. It is incumbent of me to hold fast to my faith in You and be obedient.

So today, I pray for those who are in leadership in our country, from the president, to his cabinet, to the officials that he has appointed, to the House and Senate members, whether I agree with their policies and stances or not (1 Timothy 2:1-2). I pray that You would give them wisdom and grace. Guide their decision making a direct them in the path that would result in our country being a better place. I pray that You would determine what should be the judgment for what they have done and are doing to harm others. And I ask that You would give me a heart of compassion towards them, even as You looked into the crowd and had compassion on the masses, seeing them as a flock without a shepherd (Matthew 9:36).

I recognize that Your Word declares that they were appointed by You (Romans 13:1) whether I voted for them or not. That is a hard truth to embrace. Yet, they are in power for a reason. Though what they may be doing does not fall under the categories of righteousness and justice, in the end I must trust that You know what You are doing, that You have a transcendent, all encompassing plan, and seek to understand what messages You are attempting to teach us as a whole and me specifically.

Lord Jesus, Your Word is true. I trust everything that You do. I know that You are a God Who loves justice and righteousness, and that Your unfailing love does and will continue to fill the earth. Help me to see the world differently, with a lens that is discerning Your greater plan, even when it does not seem like it is. Help me to see the glimmers of Your unfailing love because I know that they are there. Amen.
