On the day when Elkanah sacrificed, he would give portions to Peninnah his wife and to all her sons and daughters. But to Hannah he gave a double portion, because he loved her, though the LORD had closed her womb. And her rival used to provoke her grievously to irritate her, because the LORD had closed her womb. So it went on year by year. As often as she went up to the house of the LORD, she used to provoke her. Therefore Hannah wept and would not eat. And Elkanah, her husband, said to her, “Hannah, why do you weep? And why do you not eat? And why is your heart sad? Am I not more to you than ten sons?”

1 Samuel 1:4-8

Lord, give me an eye to see those in my midst whose souls are tormented because they feel as if You have passed over them. Show me those whom You have brought into my life, who are in need of Your love, that I might love up on them in a way that restores their sense of worth. I so desire today to share with the broken that You love them just as they are, reminding them that what they have or how they “feel” blessed is not an indication of Your love. Calvary is. Use me to leave Your fingerprints on their lives, a tool demonstrating Your love in a tangible way, showing them the way to that love. Help me to take their eyes off of the lack that torments them and point them towards the abundance that they have in You. Lord, while using me, keep me mindful to maintain that clear line of distinction between vessel and Source, making clear to them, and reminding myself, that I am only the means whereby You are revealing Your love. It is You that is more to them than “ten sons.” It is You that satisfies their longings. It is You that is intimately acquainted with their pain. Use me to point them to You that You might satisfy their souls to Your glory. Amen.
