When the poor and needy seek water, and there is none, and their tongue is parched with thirst, I the LORD will answer them; I the God of Israel will not forsake them.

Isaiah 41:17 (ESV)

Lord Jesus, today my soul thirsts for You. As I start off this work week I see my lack and acknowledge my deficiencies. Though I embark on the things that I must do today, I do so recognizing that I do not have within me everything I need and long for. Yes, I have an idea of what I must accomplish. Yes, I know what is expected of me. Yet, I must confess I am tired. I am weary. I need help.

I love the words declared by the sons of Korah in Psalm 42: “As the deer pants for the water brooks, So pants my soul for You, O God. My soul thirsts for God, for the living God. When shall I come and appear before God?” Even now, my soul asks this question. Lord, I need Your refreshment!

You declared, “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest (Matthew 11:28).” You are the bread of life, from Whom the life spring flows eternally, quenching my thirst (John 6:35). These promises I hold fast to, knowing that when I come to You that You will satisfy my longings, fill my cup to overflowing, and give me what I desperately stand in the need of.

Well today, Master, I need You. My soul is not looking for answers or provision, though I could use them. Instead, I long to sit at Your feet and be filled with Your presence. I long to have my soul satisfied by Your Spirit. I want to taste from Your cup!

Quench my thirst, Lord. Fill me to overflowing. Satisfy my longings and desires to be with You, in harmony with Your Spirit, following in Your glorious footsteps. And not just this morning, but the whole day. Refresh my soul to Your glory. Amen!
