But if I were you, I would appeal to God; I would lay my cause before him. He performs wonders that cannot be fathomed, miracles that cannot be counted.

Job 5:8-9 (NIV)

Lord, my soul wondered what it was about these verses this morning that appealed to my inner being. After all they were spoken by Eliphaz, one of Job’s friends whose words pointed more towards conviction than compassion!

Yet the power of his appeal rings so true in my heart, reminding me of how I so often try to fix everything that is going wrong in my life and the lives of those I care about rather than bringing it all to You. You are the God of compassion who comforts us in all of our troubles that we may comfort others when they are going through (2 Corinthians 1:3-4). Your only requirement: cast my cares upon You because You care for me (1 Peter 5:7)! You do not promise how  You will answer. Only that You will answer. And frankly, this morning that is good news!

So today, Lord, first forgive me for trying to do it all by myself. In essence I have tried to be a little “g” god in my life rather than relying on the only true God, You. I feigned to have the answers while in actuality groping on the inside on where to turn and what to do. And all the while You sat patiently waiting on me to just come to You.

So today I bring my cares and concerns to You. I lay before You all the weights that I have carried, am carrying, and will carry. I ask that You would take care of it all for me. I don’t know how You will do it, but I know that You can, and by faith, hold fast to the knowledge that You will. Have Your way in Jesus’ Name. Amen.
