Now the king was talking with Gehazi the servant of the man of God, saying, “Tell me all the great things that Elisha has done.” And while he was telling the king how Elisha had restored the dead to life, behold, the woman whose son he had restored to life appealed to the king for her house and her land. And Gehazi said, “My lord, O king, here is the woman, and here is her son whom Elisha restored to life.” And when the king asked the woman, she told him. So the king appointed an official for her, saying, “Restore all that was hers, together with all the produce of the fields from the day that she left the land until now.”
2 Kings 8:4-6
Lord, Gehazi was smitten with leprosy by Elisha because of his sin of greed. Yet, he still testifies to the goodness of Elisha and the wonderful things he has done through You! He is still called “the servant of the man of God!” He is trusted by the king to give testimony to the great things that Elisha has done. I am humbled this morning because that is me. I am Your servant who sins. You, in Your righteous judgment discipline me because of the sins that I commit. Yet, the call for me is to continually proclaim Your goodness despite the fact that I carry upon this body the scars of my brokenness. Oh, that You would give eyes to those who hear me not to see the results of my sins but instead ears to hear the joy and testimony regarding Your goodness that comes out of my mouth! Even as the king disregarded the leprosy all over the body of Gehazi, let those who come into my presence today disregard the brokenness of my flesh, and instead cling to the words regarding Your goodness and mercies that I proclaim today. Don’t let me become so caught up in a “woe is me” attitude, feeling sorry for myself for being disciplined by You, that I miss my chance to let everyone know how good You are. Instead, help me to first repent and then accept Your righteous judgment, realizing that I shall never reap the full penalty for the sins that I commit, but instead that there awaits me Your unmerited and unconditional forgiveness through Christ Jesus! I thank You today for this wonderful example of what my life, the Christian life, looks like. I will let everyone one know. Amen.
