O house of Jacob, come, let us walk in the light of the LORD.

Isaiah 2:5 (ESV)

Lord Jesus, that is my heart’s desire this morning. When I read of what You intend to do, how You will establish Your Kingdom in person, my soul longs for it! Yes, I do enjoy the splendors of this life. Yet, they are but a foretaste of what is to come. And if life, when it is good, is but a commercial, I want to enjoy the main feature! My soul cries out with the Apostle John, as I exclaim, “Even so, come Lord Jesus!”

Lord, in a day where I hear of wars and rumors of wars, where children and adults are washed away by raging river floods, where I learn of loved ones gripped by cancer, languishing in hospice care, where my soul frankly finds it difficult to be at ease, I am encouraged when I remember what You have declared regarding what the new Heaven and new Earth will look like. In that day:

  • There will be no strife for all creation will be at peace, none preying on the other (Isaiah 11:6-9).
  • There, we will rejoice and be glad, daily forgetting the bad times, only seeing before us the glorious future we will have in You (Isaiah 65:17-19).
  • There, we don’t have to worry about trusting that stranger walking next to us or feeling vulnerable because righteousness shall prevail in the streets (Psalm 72:7).
  • But most important, there we will see You, in person and in the flesh. Though I shall still pray to You, I will be able to see You face-to-face, for You will establish Your throne amongst us, wiping tears from our eyes, eliminating sorrow, pain, heartaches, loss, disease, and any other thing that tears at our hearts, replacing them all with Your love, splendor and glory (Revelation 21:1-5).

So today, I hold fast to that promise, knowing who I am and Whose I am (1 John 3:1). I remind myself that I have everything I need (2 Peter 1:3-4). And all of the cares and concerns that rise up in me and cause me to feel uneasy and uncertain about this day and the future, I give them to You, knowing that Your peace will keep my heart and mind (Philippians 4:6-7). Thank You for Your unchanging, unfailing love! Amen!
