For the creation waits with eager longing for the revealing of the sons of God.

Romans 8:19 (ESV)

Father, as I watch the sun rise this morning, my soul has been overwhelmed by the expansiveness of Your creation, its beauty, and its splendor. It is not lost on me that You have created it all, formed and shaped it, and caused it to work seamlessly together. Equally it is not lost on me that with one fell swoop it can be transformed from a thing of beauty and wonder to a devastating force as experienced by those folks who were impacted by floods in Texas. My soul this morning is not pondering the question why You would permit such a thing to happen. Instead, I stand before You in awe, knowing that You are in control. Knowing that You have a divine purpose beyond what we can see or understand in the moment. And knowing that one day we shall understand it.

So today, as I meditate on the “fickleness” of the elements, I am reminded that they too await my Savior’s return. I am reminded that all that hurts in this world is but momentary, and no matter how bitter, it is light, pre-glory workout, preparing us for the blessings beyond (2 Corinthians 4:17-18). I know that they declare Your glory (Psalm 19:1-6). And it is marvelous in my sight!

So I look to You today, my soul, like all of creation, anxiously awaiting and longing for the revealing of the sons of God. I look up with anticipation, knowing that my redemption is drawing nigh (Luke 21:28). My spirit is today looking forward with expectation on the return of the Christ to this place, transforming the beauty of this world into glorious magnificence, and wiping the tears from all eyes, removing all pain, and manifestation Your glorious peace. Even so, come Lord Jesus! Amen.
