Of old you laid the foundation of the earth, and the heavens are the work of your hands. They will perish, but you will remain; they will all wear out like a garment. You will change them like a robe, and they will pass away, but you are the same, and your years have no end.

Psalm 102:25-27 (ESV)

Father God, my soul pauses this day to worship You! In the midst of a constantly changing world, You stay the same!

My mind is amazed at how different things are today than they were when I was a child. Growing up I remember being instructed by my parents to make sure I had change in my pocket in case I needed to call home. Today I have a telephone in my pocket that constantly steals my attention! To go from point A to point B into unfamiliar areas I relied on reading a map and memorizing the directions. Today the same phone can speak the directions to me and cars are equipped with GPS’s that can do the same. Today I can speak to individuals on the other side of the world, seeing their facial expressions via tools like Zoom, whereas before they were accessible by mail or, if we could afford it, international phone calls. And not to mention computers speaking to us, learning, and even writing books through AI!

The world is changing rapidly, often faster than I can wrap my head around. But You never change!  Gaining access to You today is the same as it was for David – through prayer. Learning what Your will is is the same as it was for saints of old – reading Your Word. Your righteous requirements have not changed; they do not ebb and flow like the tides. No, You require that we love You with all of our being and love others just like we love ourselves (Mark 12:30-31). In the midst of a constantly changing world You are my stability, my sure foundation (Psalm 18).

So today, I just want to say thank You for being that constant in my life, He Who never shifts or changes. Thank You for not making accessing You over complicated and not shifting the requirements for relationship with You. Thank You for the simple truths of the gospel, requiring only that I confess my need for You and surrender my life to Your Son. You have done the rest. Thank You for the never changing simplicity of the Your grace and mercy. Amen.
