I am the LORD your God, who brought you up out of Egypt. Open wide your mouth and I will fill it.

Psalm 81:10 (NIV)

Father God, I call to You this morning to fill me. I stand before You hungry, in need of the nourishment that cannot come from earthly meals. Though I fill my belly with food, I confess I am not full. Though I tantalize my tastebuds with the most succulent of fruits and vegetables, enticing my culinary desires with the choicest of proteins, my body is never fully satisfied, always coming to the place where I want – need – more. Why else would I have a cycle of eating, following a routine of pausing for breakfast, lunch and dinner?

Yet, what I most long for this day is that You would fill my spirit with Your Spirit. Satisfy my deepest hungers, Lord. As I consume Your Word this day cause each letter to be a joy and delight to my heart (Jeremiah 15:16). I want to consume Your Word, to taste its sweetness against my tongue (Ezekiel 3:3), and experience the swelling fire that compels me to tell somebody about how good You are (Jeremiah 20:9)!

So today, it is my prayer that You would aide me in keeping supreme in my life Your presence and Your Word that I might not sin against You. Continue to remind me of what You have done for Your servant in times past. Don’t let me forget the victories You have wrought in my life so that I do not fall back into sin as those before me have. Instead, Father I choose to listen to Your voice, heed Your call, and feast on Your Word. For they speak of life. The life I hunger for.

In the Name of Jesus, the Living Word I pray. Amen.
