And he who searches hearts knows what is the mind of the Spirit, because the Spirit intercedes for the saints according to the will of God.
Romans 8:27
Father God, sometimes I just don’t know what to say or pray for. I can be so overwhelmed by what is going on in my life and the world around me that I just don’t know where to begin. Other times, I am just dumbfounded, lost in the moment, words escaping me. Knowing, needing and looking for positive results in my life, I find myself longing for something – anything – to change, not knowing what I need in the moment to bring about that change, but knowing Who I need to turn to for it.
That’s when I come to You. As the previous verse proclaims, I don’t know what to pray for. Though I usually interpret that verse as a conditional “sometimes”, every translation I have looked through today exclaims we do not know what to pray for as we are supposed to. That so speaks to my condition today and everyday! I see what needs to happen in my life and the lives of others. And though I think I am asking for the right things in prayer, there lingers in the back of my mind the question am I really?
I rejoice today knowing not only is the Holy Spirit making intercession on my behalf, but He is doing so in full and complete alignment with You. He knows what is Your ultimate purpose for my life, and as I am going through, He is calling out to You on my behalf asking for just what I need in the moment. And it is always good for my good!
Father, grant me peace today not to be so caught up in the words that come out of my mouth when I call upon You, but instead to be in tuned with the presence of the Holy Spirit in my midst, dwelling in my soul – my spirit united with Him – that I might come before You with boldness. Give me peace, overwhelming the anxiousness. Don’t let me be so focused on what I say or don’t say, but instead help my heart to be consumed by Your awesome presence, knowing that the Holy Spirit is speaking to You on my behalf, taking the gibberish coming out of my mouth and making sense of it. Make my joy complete by filling me with Your love. Thank You for this awesome provision for me. Amen.
