The next day he saw Jesus coming toward him, and said, “Behold, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world!”
John 1:29 (ESV)
Lord Jesus, on this Monday following Palm Sunday, there are two contrasting images that play in my mind: one of You mounted on a donkey, lauded and praised by a crowd with palm branches and cloaks hewn everywhere. And another of You inconspicuously coming to the river, blending in with the crowd, yet proclaimed and declared for all to know. The first is a grand production. The second a subtle entrance.
This time of year the former image is what we paint in the minds for all to envision. But my soul this morning clings to the latter one, You coming into my life without fanfare, without a huge production, but gently calling me to follow. I remember when You beckoned me some time ago. And my soul this morning, still declares, “Where You lead, I will follow.”
Lord, You came into this world to die for us. This week reminds us of that glorious event. What my heart holds fast to this morning is the eternal results of Your finished work: the removal of sin and the infusion of grace! I am now Yours, loved with an everlasting love, and sealed for that day when You either call me home or return to get me, both of which are welcomed events! But until then, I stand with John and declare, “Behold, the Lamb of God, Who takes away the sin of the world!”
I worship You, Master, and glorify Your Name. Thank You for the subtle intrusion in my life that changed me from the inside out. I, like all my brothers and sisters worldwide praise You as we lay down palm branches, looking upon Your image riding that donkey. We together declare, “Hosanna in the Highest!” But know for a fact Master, that we look more forward to seeing You ride in on that white horse, ushering in Your kingdom (Revelation 19:17)! Ride on, King Jesus to Your glory and our full redemption! Amen!
