And when they had crossed over, they came to land at Gennesaret. And when the men of that place recognized him, they sent around to all that region and brought to him all who were sick and implored him that they might only touch the fringe of his garment. And as many as touched it were made well.
Matthew 14:34-36
Lord, my mind is gripped by the freshness of this word: they heard how You healed a woman who just touched Your garment, and they believed that by doing so they too could experience Your power in their lives. Oh, for that kind of faith! I confess far too often I am like the Pharisees looking for signs, indications, that You are at work in my situation. Asking to see Your “fingerprints”, I act as if it is an act of faith. In reality it is the request of a sign-seeker, desiring evidence that You are going to do what I long for You to do. Yet, they recognized You and sent everywhere for the sick to come to You and implored You to “only touch the fringe” of Your garment. They only wanted to touch You. They acted based upon what they heard about You. Lord, my trust in You goes beyond the boundaries of “heard”. I have seen and I know. Yet, the pragmatism of living in the world has impacted my faith. I believe. Yet spattering of doubt contaminate my pool of belief. Lord, help me to get back to that sense of boundless faith and wonderment. Help me to step over reason and reach for Your garment. Lord, today, I ask for refreshed, childlike faith. Help me to believe just because, without all of the baggage I tend to put on it. I want to hold fast just because You are God and I know that You can do all things. Stir it up within me to Your glory, in Jesus’ Name I pray, Amen.
