On that day they read from the Book of Moses in the hearing of the people. And in it was found written that no Ammonite or Moabite should ever enter the assembly of God, for they did not meet the people of Israel with bread and water, but hired Balaam against them to curse them—yet our God turned the curse into a blessing.
Nehemiah 13:1-2 (ESV)
Father, as I embark on my engagements today, my heart is torn because there are those whom I would just desire to write off because they have not done right by me. Whether it is in my face or behind my back, they have demonstrated that they are not to be trusted and have shown that they don’t have my best interest at heart. Yet, I am reminded that what they meant for evil You meant for good. I can see that You did not allow their plans to inevitably succeed but instead flip them on their heads. Yes, I may have had to endure some “discomfort” in the season, but in the end You turned what should have been a curse into a blessing. And in return, all You have asked is that I not only trust You but that I lift You up before all men, including them, that You might draw them unto Yourself through Christ.
Help me today not to hold a grudge but instead see them with an eye of compassion, acknowledging the grace that is mine, and how I have not only been given Your divine perspective on things, but was, myself, on the other side of this equation. I was the offender. I was the one wishing ill on my fellow traveler. But You intervened in my life. You opened my eyes. And You changed my heart. Now, I want to bless and not curse. And that is all because of You!
So, as I walk into my relationships today, especially with those who wish to not help me but hinder me, enable me to do so full of grace, knowing that because You are sovereign all things will work together for my good. Help me to fearlessly and lovingly engage any and everyone, knowing that in the end it is about demonstrating Your love in a tangible way. I want to be more like Jesus, Who was mistreated, spat upon and cursed. Yet, in His selfless act of love, You took their curses and made them into an eternal blessing for me and all who call upon His Name. Help me to be like that today in Jesus’ Name. Amen!
