He who withholds kindness from a friend forsakes the fear of the Almighty.
Job 6:14 (ESV)
LORD, You have been so good to me. On this day I reflect upon how You have over and over again provided me what I have stood in the need of. You have in many areas provided for me abundantly, raising up people who have loved me and cared for me, especially during my darkest days. For this I say thank You.
I confess that I have often taken it and You for granted, acting almost like I deserve the favor that has come my way. How so not true! On the contrary, I deserve to be cast out of Your presence, out of relationship with You. But because of the sacrifice of my Savior, grace has been poured out on me. I have been forgiven, set free, and adopted. I am now Yours to be used to spread the word about the glorious redemption that is available to all who call upon the Name of Jesus. Hallelujah!
My prayer today is that You would use me to show kindness to any and all who come across my path today, those close to me and even to those who are strangers. Help me to treat everyone I come into contact with as a friend. Even as Christ befriended me when I was not a friend, enable me to befriend those who today are not my friends. I want to demonstrate Your love in a tangible way. That saying told to me by a classmate years ago is what I want to live out today: “When you see someone without a smile, give them one of yours.”
I want to love and touch others’ lives today, showing them what You have done in me and through me, and in some way be a blessing to them. There will be those who are mourning, discouraged, defeated, and just plain tired who will come across my path. Enable me to remind them that You see them and care. But most of all, use me as Your vessel to pour love and grace in their lives, that their heads might be lifted up and their hearts directed towards You. In Jesus’ Name I pray. Amen.
