Whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord and not for men, knowing that from the Lord you will receive the inheritance as your reward. You are serving the Lord Christ.
Colossians 3:23-24 (ESV)
Lord Jesus there is a lot on my plate as I start off this day. The holiday season is in front of me with all of the hectic activities that come with it. My mind is quickly bombarded with what I need to do and must get done, commitments I have made and impacts I want to have. I must confess, it is easy for me to be so caught up in it that I forget what is most important. And worse, forget what I have to be thankful for.
So, this morning I want to let You know that I am eternally grateful that You see me, my potential, my worth, and the value that I can bring to this world and the Kingdom. My mind can quickly forget that it was You that placed before me what I must get done, it is all the works of Your hands – the job I have, the responsibilities that have been assigned to me, the authority that was placed over me and below me – it is all the outworking of Your will in my life.
I confess I often take all of this for granted. I am easily caught up in the “doing” that I rarely stop to reflect upon the mighty work You had to bring to pass for me to be in that position. I can be so consumed by the actual tasks that I miss the obvious and subtle significance of them in my life and the lives of others. Most importantly, I miss the fact that You have trusted me enough to assign them to me. Thank You for seeing potential in me that I often don’t see in myself! Thank You for relying on me when I have many times failed You, others and myself! I do not want to let You down!
So again, I thank You for the confidence You have placed in me. I pray that You would enable me to live up to it, accomplishing what You have purposed me to accomplish, fulfilling the tasks You have placed before me. Help me to be the person You have created me to be, getting done what You have preordained that I should finish, demonstrating Your love and presence in my life and this world in a tangible way to Your glory. But most importantly, continue to remind me that I am not doing it for others. I am serving You! Amen.
