Out of them shall come songs of thanksgiving, and the voices of those who celebrate. I will multiply them, and they shall not be few; I will make them honored, and they shall not be small.
Jeremiah 30:19
Father God, this Thanksgiving season, which is the threshold to the Advent season, I step away from the busyness of “now” to reflect upon Your goodness. I confess that though both seasons should take our focus away from the troubles and problems of everyday life and compel us to rise above the fray and see the bigger picture, oftentimes I find myself caught up in the mundane and trivialities. Whether it is worrying about what ingredients I need in order to prepare food for tomorrow, or checking my bank account to make sure I have the money I need for Black Friday, the main thing of the season is not the main thing. Instead, I find myself getting caught up in all the other going ons around me, swamped in the stress and pressure to please others and be viewed as a “good person.”
Today, Lord, I take a step back. I steal away from the rush in the moment and savor what You have done in my life over the past twelve months. The highlight, I must say, has been how You have caused those around me to multiply. Lord, I thank You for adding to the numbers those whom I am in relationship with. You have brought new people in my life, restored old friendships, mended broken bonds, and deepened valued companionships. You have added to my circle individuals who make my life better – who make me better – and they have taken the love that I have poured out to them and reciprocated it 100 times over! The grace exchange that I have with them causes me to forget about the troubles and cares of the day as I bask in their love for me that is nothing less than a reflection of Your love for them. All of this only draws me closer to them and to You. I am better because You have brought them into my life!
Today I give You thanks because none of this could be if it were not for You and the work You are doing in me and around me. You are the Supreme Catalyst, the Main Attraction to the show that is my life. As I reflect the life of my Savior, You fill my life with individuals who in turn fill my life with the love of my Savior. So today, I just want to say thank You for multiplying me that I am not few, and honoring me that I am not small! Thank You! Amen!
