Those who now rule have been chosen by God. So whoever opposes the authorities opposes leaders whom God has appointed.

Romans 13:1b-2 (NIrV)

Pray for everyone who is in authority. Pray that we can live peaceful and quiet lives. And pray that we will be godly and holy.  This is good, and it pleases God our Savior.

1 Timothy 2:1b-3 (NIrV)

The LORD and King says, “Princes of Israel, you have gone far enough! Stop hurting others. Do not crush them. Do what is fair and right. Stop taking my people’s land away from them,” announces the LORD and King.

Ezekiel 45:9 (NIrV)

Lord Jesus, it is Election Day. You have blessed us in this country with this thing we call the right to vote. By it our voice is heard regarding who we would have to lead us. In it we are given what feels to be some say as to the direction that our country is going and how it impacts our lives.

Yet, my heart today was reminded through Ezekiel that You are in charge. Even as Paul declared, it is You that appoints those who rule over us. Whether judges, legislators, clerks, or even the president, they have been set in place by You for Your glory. And what’s more, it is You that will hold them accountable. It is not my vote, though in this country it does matter. Yet, I have seen throughout my life that it is but one vote. Yours is the only vote that matters. You determine who rules over us while we are here on this Earth. And my heart celebrates in that truth because Your will SHALL be done and You SHALL be glorified! Hallelujah regardless of who wins!

Lord, I don’t know who will win, whether the folks whose name I check on the ballot or not. But I find peace and comfort in knowing that only those whom YOU deem should win will do so, and You shall ultimately hold them accountable to do what is good, right and just for Your people.

Therefore, today I pray for those whom You have and shall place in authority over me. It is my desire that they carry out Your perfect will in our country and our lives. I pray that You would open their eyes to what is good and just and turn their hearts from that which hurts, harms and crushes others. Show them what is fair and right. The weight they carry is heavy. Bear it with them, Master. Protect them from those who would do them harm, and govern their hearts and minds that they might think Your thoughts after You. Hold them accountable as You see fit, sprinkling Your grace and mercy in the midst because we all have sinned and need Your forgiveness. And let Your peace permeate from what they do.

Lord Jesus, most importantly, continue to remind me and all who call upon Your Name, that these are but earthly rulers. We have a King who is the King of all kings in You. You are the Head of our lives. And to You alone do we bow down, worship and serve. Praises to Your Name! Amen!
