Remind them to be submissive to rulers and authorities, to be obedient, to be ready for every good work, to speak evil of no one, to avoid quarreling, to be gentle, and to show perfect courtesy toward all people.
Titus 3:1-2
Father God, today my soul so embraces the role of faith in every aspect of my life. I rejoice in the fact that You have placed me in a place where I can choose who I desire to lead me while at the same time finding comfort in the fact that You are ultimately in control. Being part of a country where we can elect leaders is a privilege. Despite the fact that many get caught up in all of the banter, arguments, rivalries, and various other ways we divide and separate ourselves, my soul finds great peace in knowing that no leader is put into place without Your say so (Romans 13:1). Where my faith must kick in is in accepting both what I believe to be good as well as bad when Your will is ultimately revealed (Job 2:10). I confess that this is difficult. In one breath I cry out, “Hallelujah!” knowing that despite what we want, You have the final say. In another breath, when it isn’t what I want, I cry out, “How long, oh Lord!” Yet, You continue to remind me that all things, inevitably, will work out for my good (Romans 8:28).
So today, my prayer is that You would help me to accept whatever outcome You bring to pass. I commit to demonstrate in word and deed that trust You, not in a way that is governed by the behaviors of others, circumstances that I find myself in, or even the outcomes of an election. I want to let everyone know that in good times and bad times, in times where I agree and where I disagree, that my hope rests solely in You.
Help me today to walk in a manner that displays my conviction that nothing comes my way except it first passes through your hands. You are sovereign, knowing not only the beginning from the end, but also what You purpose to bring to pass to Your glory. You are the one who raises up authorities. And the next leaders of this nation will be those who are appointed by you for this season. Help me to embrace the choices that you make by demonstrating Your love in a tangible way. That means if I don’t have anything good to say about someone, don’t say anything at all. It means avoiding silly arguments, but instead looking to build others up. It mean being kind and compassionate, honoring others even as I desire to be honored. Then You will be glorified in all situations and circumstances, my light shining in a manner that points others to You, showing the world that I have placed my trust in You. Thank You for this awesome responsibility. Help me to live up to it in Jesus’ Name. Amen.
