He put another parable before them, saying, “The kingdom of heaven is like a grain of mustard seed that a man took and sowed in his field. It is the smallest of all seeds, but when it has grown it is larger than all the garden plants and becomes a tree, so that the birds of the air come and make nests in its branches.”
Matthew 13:31-32 (ESV)
Father, there are so many people that You have and will bring across my path today, individuals in some cases I know, and in other cases I do not know. Many I will have no idea why I am engaging with them. Others I will think it is for one reason or another. Yet, with all of them, there is a seed that You desire for me to plant in them, and a seed for them to plant in me. There is a Kingdom purpose that You have our paths to cross. My job, goal, and aim is to sow as You would have me to. Help me to do so.
I confess that many times I look at what I have to offer and believe that it is insignificant, minuscule at best. I see what I bring to the table as a pittance. Yet, through the parable of the mustard seed I am reminded that a little bit in Your hands is a lot. You are reminding me that You can take what seems minute and paltry and cause it to grow into a mighty source of seeds, bringing fragrant joy and beauty into the world. That’s what I want do for You, Father. Through the power of the Holy Spirit I want to make this world better through my seed sowing. And not so that my name can be up in lights. But so that the Name of Jesus might be glorified through the power of the Holy Spirit, shining the light on Your goodness and mercy!
So today, take my seeds. And as I plant them in faith, cause them to grow and multiply. I pray for the ground that I shall plant them in, that it might be fertile. Let the seeds take root, sending waterers and fertilizers that they might grow into the Kingdom plants that You have purposed that they should. Use me, Lord, as You see fit this day, to change lives and point wanderers to Christ. Amen.
