Let no one disqualify you, insisting on asceticism and worship of angels, going on in detail about visions, puffed up without reason by his sensuous mind, and not holding fast to the Head, from whom the whole body, nourished and knit together through its joints and ligaments, grows with a growth that is from God.
Colossians 2:18-19
LORD, grant me discernment regarding who I follow after and whose spiritual direction I take. In my love and zeal to serve You I recognize I can potentially be vulnerable to those posing to be spiritual, claiming to hear from You, and espousing doctrines that are pleasing to the ear. In this world that I live in, where the airwaves are full of such individuals, I need discernment so that I can follow after the truth and not a lie, guided by Your revealed Word and not the whims of those who have merely a form of godliness or have attained recognition and notoriety, yet have no relationship with You. Show me Jesus, Who is my Head, that I might in all of my ways acknowledge Him. Raise up around me others who desire a sincere, intimate walk with Him, who are willing to sacrifice this world and all it has to offer in order to be closer to Him. Enable me to walk hand-in-hand with them, nourishing one another as we grow collectively in our relationship with Christ. I want to know Jesus in truth. Help me to get past the lies that this world will attempt to sell me, as I, and those You raise up in my life, pursue Him to Your glory and Your praise. I pray this in Jesus’. Amen.
