God is faithful, by whom you were called into the fellowship of his Son, Jesus Christ our Lord.
1 Corinthians 1:9
Father God, as I wrestle with the challenges that life brings I must confess that often times I question where You are in all of it. Whether it is difficulties with family and friends, trouble in my community, or even this upcoming presidential election, my mind spins wondering where are You. I so desperately find myself holding on to Your promises. But the patient pain of waiting beats me up, especially when I cannot see Your fingerprints around me.
My soul finds comfort in this verse today. In it I am reminded first and foremost of Your faithfulness, so powerfully demonstrated in how You faithfully raised my Savior from the dead. You did not leave Him in the grave. But even as You promised, You did not abandon His soul to Sheol, or let Him see corruption (Psalm 16:10). Though You caused Him to experience many troubles and calamities, You revived Him from the depths of the earth, and raised Him up above it all (Psalm 71:20).
Which points to the second fact that I hang my hat on. Even as You faithfully brought Him through the trials and tribulations of life You will do the same for me for You called me into fellowship with Him. This was not just a decision on my part, but was also a divine drawing on Your part, bringing me near to You through the power of the Holy Spirit. You have chosen me in Him (Ephesians 1:4), for the purpose of bearing fruit for Your Kingdom (John 15:16). This calling transcends all of the other ways that I define myself. I am who I am because of it.
Help me today to walk faithfully in this calling, holding fast to You, grounded in Your proven track record of delivering. You have never failed me, nor anyone else who has placed their trust in You. I cling today to Your promises, knowing that You can do all things but fail. Be glorified in Jesus’ Name! Amen!
