Is this blessing then only for the circumcised, or also for the uncircumcised? For we say that faith was counted to Abraham as righteousness. How then was it counted to him? Was it before or after he had been circumcised? It was not after, but before he was circumcised. He received the sign of circumcision as a seal of the righteousness that he had by faith while he was still uncircumcised.

Romans 4:9-11 (ESV)

Lord, this morning, as I am reading Romans, it came to my mind why didn’t Paul see this before he was saved? The small fact that Abraham was declared righteous before he was circumcised has always been there. And Paul, a student of the Word, had read that truth in Genesis multiple times. Yet, he never saw that one little fact that introduces the revolutionary notion of justification by faith!

Master, it is so amazing how our lived and taught biases can blind us to facts that are plain to see, right there in front of our faces. Indeed, Your Word continues to demonstrate itself true, declaring that we have eyes that cannot see and ears that cannot hear (Jeremiah 5:21). I am amazed this morning how the Holy Spirit connects the dots in our minds, unblinding our eyes, and enabling us to see and understand clearly. It is simply amazing! Through His work You reveal what is hidden, remove any semblance of doubt, and encourage our souls. We know You because You gave Him to us to enable our believing! What a glorious gift!

I pray today that You would continue to connect the dots of Your revelation of Yourself in my mind today. Through the work of the Holy Spirit, continue to reveal to me the truths concerning You from Your Word, giving me a fresh perspective from every jot and tittle. Please continue to amaze me by the tension of Your Word’s shear simplicity and its wondrous complexity.

Regarding Your revelation of Yourself in the world around me, open my eyes to Your glorious fingerprints in my midst, showing me how, through the Holy Spirit, You are making all things new, causing the old things to pass away. Help me to live in the moment, savoring the glory of being in Your presence, enjoying the splendor of Your fellowship, knowing that Your Spirit is dwelling in me and filling me with Your love. In Jesus’ Name I pray. Amen!
