No one engaged in warfare entangles himself with the affairs of this life, that he may please him who enlisted him as a soldier.

Lord Jesus I pray today that You would keep me focused on my calling and the things that bring You glory. I pray for clarity of purpose throughout this day and singleness of mind as it pertains to the things that are important to You. Enable me to see the brokenness in others and not get caught up with this mindset that I need to fix or heal them. That is what You do. Instead, compel me to have compassion for them, loving them in spite of their condition and drawing them nearer to You with kindness.
I confess that I am easily entangled by the things of this world. My attention quickly goes to the things that are the loudest, the topics that are the most sensational, the arguments that are the most intense. And it’s not that I am always looking for a fight. I am not. It is that I often erroneously believe that I’m supposed to raise Your flag of glory in the midst of that mayhem. I am a soldier of the Lord after all.
Yet, You admonish me to not quarrel over words (2 Timothy 2:14), to handle Your Word right (vs. 15), avoid godless chatter (vs. 16), and stop being immature in my faith (vs. 22). You specifically instruct me not to have anything to do with foolish and stupid arguments in an effort to avoid quarrels (vss. 23-24). My call is to pursue righteousness, faithfulness, love and peace. I am to be Your light in this darkness. The weapons of my warfare are laced with love.
Help me today to prioritize what is important and what is not as important. It is not about the politics of the moment, gas prices, or the cost of living. It is not about who folks vote for or whether they are democrat or republican. It is about whether they know You and are trusting in You for their all and all. Enable me to be that messenger, that soldier, fighting that souls might be saved, captives might be set free, and hearts might be liberated. The rest, though it may make life easier, is not important. Only Your glory is. I receive my orders today. Use me to Your glory. Amen.
