Return, O my soul, to your rest; for the LORD has dealt bountifully with you.

Psalms 116:7 (ESV)

Father God, on this Labor Day, a day set aside to celebrate the labor movements of this country, I am struck by the fact that it is a day where work ceases. Yes, there are some businesses that are open. Mainly those focused on the sale of goods. But in general, all have ceased from working, setting this as a day of rest. It is set aside as a day to acknowledge all that laborers have done to make this country what it is.

All of this brings to my mind the glorious work that Christ has done on my behalf, what He has accomplished in my stead, enabling me to now find rest in Him. Where my works of righteousness failed, He made up the difference. Where I continue to come up short, He has bridged and continues to bridge the gap. In Him, and by Him, and through Him I am able to meet Your righteous requirements, being able to stand before You, not clothed in my deeds but His, washed in His blood! His finished work has made it so. And even now, I hear His glorious words, “Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.” (Matthew 11:28)

So, on this day where we celebrate the labor movement here in this country, I celebrate the finished work of my Savior. As I go through this day, I lift up His Holy and Righteous Name, worshipping and praising Him for what He has done for me and all who call upon His Name. I thank You for applying His finished work to my account, ushering me into Your Family through Him. Today, as I rest from work, I more so rest in my Savior to Your glory. Amen.
