Then Jesus called his disciples to him and said, “I have compassion on the crowd because they have been with me now three days and have nothing to eat. And I am unwilling to send them away hungry, lest they faint on the way.” And the disciples said to him, “Where are we to get enough bread in such a desolate place to feed so great a crowd?”

Matthew 15:32-33 (ESV)

Lord Jesus, it is not lost on me that this is the second time that You have beckoned the disciples to give the hungry crowd something to eat and the disciples were so consumed with what they did not have that they missed Who they had. How many times have I had to be taught the same lesson over and over and over again? How many times have You beckoned me to do something and I miss the application of previous lessons? Have mercy!

Today, as I am confronted with the opportunities of the day, I pray for a heart that hears You and faith that embraces that all things are indeed possible to Him that believes (Mark 9:23), and that I am putting my faith in the Him! Lord, it is You that unstops eyes, opens ears, causes the lame to walk, and the bound to be set free. You provide guidance and wisdom, peace and comfort, joy and hope. In a compassionless world You bring compassion. In a hungry world You fill bellies. My call is to hear Your voice and respond to Your call.

Grant me eyes to see what You see and ears to hear You calling me to action. I pray for the faith to trust and believe that You can and will perform a miracle in my midst, using me to change lives and point them towards the Savior of the world, showing them that You are the source of all things good. Change hearts and minds before my very eyes and provide the bread of life through me to all who might come into my presence today. As You have compassion on them, give me the same heart and the faith not to say, “Where are we to get enough bread in such a desolate place to feed so great a crowd?” But instead the resolve to declare, “Lord, take the meager pittance that I have and use it to Your glory.” Amen.
