And Peter said to Jesus, “Rabbi, it is good that we are here. Let us make three tents, one for you and one for Moses and one for Elijah.” For he did not know what to say, for they were terrified.
Mark 9:5-6 (ESV)
Lord Jesus, give me wisdom to know when to speak and to know when to just be still before You. I confess that I can be like Peter, so overwhelmed by what You are doing in the moment, that, not knowing what to do, just say the first thing that comes to my head. It can come across as making absolutely no sense. Yet, the awkwardness of the silence compels me to fill the space up with sounds. Sometimes, it is better just for me to shut up and take in what You are doing, allowing my spirit to process what You are attempting to share with me.
So today, help me to be quick to hear and slow to speak (James 1:19). Help me to realize that sometimes I just need to meditate on what You are doing around me, that it is not always Your intention to compel me to speak or act, but instead sometimes it is about enrapturing my soul with awe. Even as You specifically chose to take Peter, James and John to that mountaintop You specially choose me to have these experiences. It is not by accident. And it is not always because You want me to say something or do something. Sometimes it is just to deepen my love, trust and awe of You. I just need help in knowing the difference, and just shut up and take it in. Amen.
