Light in a messenger’s eyes brings joy to the heart, and good news gives health to the bones.
Proverbs 15:30 (NIV)
Father, as daybreaks and the sun rises on the horizon, my soul resonates with the analogy of this proverb. Who of us does not like the breaking of day in the distant horizon against a glorious landscape? There is something about the beauty of Your creation that is accented by the shining of the morning light. It leaves a soul in wonder and awe. Those are the images that ring in my spirit this morning as I read this proverb.
Lord, there is something glorious and wonderful about those who deliver good news to us, who know that they are telling us something we want to hear, and want to deliver that message. There is an excitement in their step, a glitter in their eyes, a glorious anticipation of the elation that they will be imparting. It lights up the room. And all who experience it are better for it. And what better news is there than to tell someone that You love them, especially when they are going through?
Father, I want to be that person today. I want to have that light and bring joy to someone’s heart. Open my eyes to the opportunity to be just that. Whether in person, on video, on a phone, or just in passing, let the hearer of my words hear and see in my engagement with them, that there is light shining forth that I did not create. Let the glow of Your Spirit press upon all around me that they might find hope in Christ through me. Not that I might get a pat on the back or thanks. But that Your love might be recognized, acknowledged, and accepted. That is the good news that every heart needs to hear, that brings true health to the bones: that You loved us so much that You sent Him to bridge the gap between us and You. And in that truth we all have health of the soul.
Thank You Father for sending Jesus. Thank You Jesus for coming and being the Light of the world. Thank You Holy Spirit for stoking those flames within my heart. Amen.
