Lord Jesus, help me today to walk faithfully before You. I confess that I often struggle in the morning, overwhelmed by what is on my plate later in the day. When I rise up to spend this quiet time with You my mind can be bombarded by so many thoughts that draw me away from You, capturing my attention and draining my strength. Frankly, sometimes I feel like I’ve lost even before I have started the race! Even as the psalmist proclaims, I am restless and in turmoil (vs. 2) and my heart shudders (vs. 4). Sometimes I long to just fly away, away from all of this (vss. 6-8)!
My soul finds comfort in knowing that You hear me, that You are listening to my prayers, see my struggle and will send Your comfort to me. Whether through the encouragement of a loved one, or some quip from an unaware bystander, You will send word to me that You are here, that You are near, and that I can trust in You. And it will be those glimmers of Your grace that will give me what I need to endure and not be shaken.
So, Lord, keep me this day. Give me what I stand in the need of minute by minute. Don’t allow me to trust in myself but instead to trust completely in You. I pray for You peace and comfort. And by Your Spirit grant me endurance, that I might stay the course, finish the race, and bring glory to Your Name. Peace be still my soul while I walk by faith, step-by-step, into what You have planned for me this day according to Your purposes. Amen.
