Praise the LORD! For it is good to sing praises to our God; For it is pleasant, and praise is beautiful.
Psalm 147:1 (NKJV)
My God, I praise You this morning! As this psalm declares, it is a beautiful thing to praise You! My heart pulsates and jumps joyously as I read all the translations of this verse:
- Praise the LORD! For it is good to sing praises to our God; for it is pleasant, and a song of praise is fitting. (ESV)
- Praise the LORD. How good it is to sing praises to our God, how pleasant and fitting to praise him! (NIV)
- Hallelujah! How good it is to sing to our God, for praise is pleasant and lovely. (CSB)
- Praise the LORD! How good to sing praises to our God! How delightful and how fitting! (NLT)
- Praise the Eternal! It is good to sing praises to our God, for praise is beautiful and pleasant. (Voice)
- Give praise to the Lord; for it is good to make melody to our God; praise is pleasing and beautiful. (BBE)
- Praise the LORD, for it is good to sing praises to our God! Yes, praise is pleasant and appropriate! (NET)
Each, in their own way, introduce a nuance to this verse, saying something just a little different than the previous, but all declaring the same thing: something bubbles up and overflows within me when I am in the space of praising Your Name! My soul finds great joy and delight in praising You. Oh, that I could steal away this entire day and get lost in worshipping You in Your holiness!
LORD God, my heart is compelled to just lift You up! I so love You, Father God, Lord Jesus, and precious Holy Spirit! For You to love me in spite of my sins, to pour out Your patience on me, and to nurse me along the bumps of life simply leaves me speechless! I do not deserve what You have given, often don’t fully appreciate the price that was paid, nor always fully grasp the depth of the love that You have shown for me. Yet, it is immeasurable! It is incomprehensible! It is unmatched! I praise You!
My soul cries out today with the psalmist, “Oh, give thanks to the LORD, for He is good! For His mercy endures forever!” (Psalm 136:1) “Bless the LORD, O my soul; And all that is within me, bless His holy name!” (Psalm 103:1) I glorify and magnify Your Name this day! Be ever exalted, my God, in the eyes of Your people and in the heart of this, Your servant! Amen!
