The Spirit told Philip, “Go to that chariot and stay near it.”

Acts 8:29 (NIV)

Precious Holy Spirit, where You lead me, today, I shall follow. Whomever You send me to, I shall share of Your goodness. LORD, as I embark on the going ons of today, prime my spirit to listen to Your gentle nudges and to be sensitive to Your movements in the moment. Show me what You are doing through the obvious and less than obvious, and make me sensitive to Your unctions. Don’t allow me to second guess them but instead to embrace fully what I am being led by You to do.

I confess that though I try to be in Your Word daily and try to listen to Your guidance I am often moved by emotions and world logic rather than by Your direction. On the one hand I depend upon my earthly rationale or advisors, falling back on my education or just plain “common sense.” In the extreme I can also be pulled to do or follow after the outrageous, erroneously believing that it must be You pointing me in the way to go because it does not make worldly sense. However, I know that both approaches, LORD, are flawed. In the first it is about me. In the latter it is about impulse. In none of them is it about You. I am forgetting to look to the One Who has a plan for my life, Who is ordering my steps according to the will of the Father to the glory of the Son. I am not seeking Your guidance and direction but relying on myself.

So today my soul says, “Speak LORD; Your servant is listening.” Send me wherever and to whomever You will. Use me to touch someone’s life with the good news regarding my Savior. Give me not only the direction but the words to say. Enable me to speak life and hope into the ears of someone starving for Your grace. And if need be, grant me the courage and the grace to speak rebuke in love to someone going astray. In short, LORD, speak in me and through me. Show me the way and I will follow to Your glory. In Jesus’ Name I pray. Amen.
