Don’t turn away to follow worthless things that can’t profit or rescue you; they are worthless.
1 Samuel 12:21 (CSB)
Father God, guide me today as I do an inventory check on my heart, the things that I pursue, the value I place on what I have, and the role that it plays in shaping me. I confess that my heart is easily persuaded to purse the things of this world, disguising the drives that motivate me with flowery Christian tags, often even deceiving myself into believing that if I acquire. them I would do “more” for the Kingdom. Yet, peel back the layers and it is evident that the pursuit of self-serving prizes are at the core.
My Savior’s words ring loud and clear in my heart this morning: Seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness (Matthew 6:33). Putting You first, at the top of my agenda, must be the priority of my life. All the other things that I set my heart and mind to, though they add “creature comfort,” they do not benefit me eternally. Frankly, You are showing me that they do not truly benefit me in the here and now!
So today, show me where I am misplacing my pursuits and passions, and prioritizing the wrong things. Challenge my desires and dedications, reminding me that only what I do for Christ will last. I pray that You would continue to corral me in the straight and narrow, revealing to me all that is most priceless in this world – loving and serving You and others, sacrificially giving to build Your kingdom, and spreading the good news regarding my Savior. Lord, I choose to store up treasures where neither moth and rust can corrupt, nor thieves break in and steal (Matthew 6:20). That is what I choose to pursue: You and Your righteousness in Jesus’ Name. Amen.
