As Saul turned to leave Samuel, God changed Saul’s heart, and all these signs were fulfilled that day.

1 Samuel 10:9 (NIV)

Father God, as I reflect upon how Saul’s walk started with You and how it ended my heart hears You asking me, “Will you finish strong?” No, I didn’t have a prophetic word pronounced over me. I wasn’t separated from the crowd and declared a king. I didn’t lead masses to victory over their enemies. But Your Spirit did fall upon me. You did change my heart. And, like Saul, You have done great and wonderful things in me and through me.

Yet, when I look at how Saul started his walk with You and how it ended without You it saddens my soul and reminds me of human frailty and our need for a fresh anointing daily of Your Spirit. Lord he started out humble, knowing that it was You that had given him favor. He attempted to walk before You faithfully. But something happened along the way. He got in his own way and own head. And soon You were number two in his mind. And he paid for it. Yes, he died. But that wasn’t the worst of it. He did so without Your Spirit with him.

Lord, it is my prayer today that my walk with You today will be greater than my walk with You was yesterday. It is my prayer that You would make me more sensitive to Your Spirit’s unctions and tugging at my heart than I was yesterday, that I would be more in tuned with where You are leading me than I was before. Father, I want to finish this day better than I did yesterday. This is not about not wanting to be looked upon in the future as one who slipped out of fellowship with You. This is about wanting You to be more and more in my life, being immersed in my relationship with You, loving You and being loved by You. Lord it is about being one with You even as my Savior is one with You!

And finally Father, it is my prayer that tomorrow would be better than today. that I might walk closer with You then than I do right now. And that this holy pattern of relational growth might follow me all the days of my life until that glorious day when I am ushered into Your presence for eternity. Make it so, Lord. Fill me with Your Spirit and enable me to see Christ’s leadings in all I do to Your glory. In Jesus’ Name I pray. Amen.
