But I am trusting you, O LORD, saying, “You are my God!” My future is in your hands.
Psalm 31:14-15 (NLT)
LORD God, my heart reflects upon the troubles that David is experiencing during the times in which he penned this psalm. The words make it clear. Traps were being set for him (v. 4). He was in distress, anguish and affliction, surrounded by enemies, and feeling forgotten (vv. 9-13). Things were not good for him.
How often have I felt that way? How often have I felt as if I was all alone, by myself, left to my own devices while it seemed like those around me were plotting to take advantage of me? How often have I felt that I could not catch a break?
LORD, Your Word and Your servant encourages my soul today, my heart crying out in harmony with his, “I am trusting You, O LORD. You are my God! My future is in Your hands.” No matter how bad things may appear to me, my soul is reminded that greater is He Who is within me than he who is within this world (1 John 4:4). As I am confronted challenges and obstacles I remind myself that I can do all things through You, my strength (Philippians 4:13). When I feel like I can’t catch a break, that I am always trying to catch up, I remind myself that You have declared that I am the head not the tail, on top not the bottom (Deuteronomy 28:13). How can this be? Because You are with me! Never to leave me nor forsake me (Joshua 1:5).
So today, I place my trust fully and completely in You, LORD. Although, honestly, I cannot completely disregard the troubles that I see both in my life and the world around me, I confess to You how I’m feeling and surrender to You all of it, leaving it at the foot of Your throne. I trust You to do what only You can do – fix it. Nothing comes my except it first passes through Your hands.
So Master have Your way. I know You’ve got me. You said, “When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and when you pass through the rivers, they will not sweep over you. When you walk through the fire, you will not be burned; the flames will not set you ablaze. For I am the LORD your God, the Holy One of Israel, your Savior (Isaiah 43:2-3).” It may not be comfortable or pleasant. After all, passing through waters, flooding rivers and fires doesn’t sound fun! Yet, if You are there, I know I can make it. And I trust You. Be glorified through my feelings and circumstances in Jesus’ Name. Amen.
