We know that we have passed from death to life, because we love each other…This is how we know what love is: Jesus Christ laid down his life for us…This is how we know that we belong to the truth and how we set our hearts at rest in his presence: If our hearts condemn us, we know that God is greater than our hearts, and he knows everything…And this is how we know that he lives in us: We know it by the Spirit he gave us.
1 John 3:14a, 16a, 19-20, 24b (NIV)
Lord Jesus, I live in a world where many take pride in letting folks know what we know. We spend our youth acquiring education, degrees, certificates, and notoriety from those in high places. We feel good about ourselves when others come to rely upon us and what we bring to the relationship.
Yet, this morning, as I reflect upon all that I know, I proclaim with Paul that I count it all rubbish for the excellency of knowing You (Philippians 3:8). As I read through all of the “we knows” of 1 John 3, my heart jumped for joy because I know all the things that John reminded my soul of, even now seeing the fruit of it in my living. I know that I have passed from death to life. I know what true love is. I know that I belong to the true and living God. And I know, Lord Jesus, that You live! Hallelujah!
Help me today to walk in that knowledge. Continue to remind me of what I know. When doubts come into my heart, reinforce the foundational truths that have established me in You. Continue to fill me with Your Spirit that I might follow in Your footsteps by His guidance. Help me to love others as You have, willingly laying down my life for them. Continue to show me where I fall short that I might lay it before You and my heart no longer condemn me. And please show me Your fingerprints all around me that I might joyously point them out to my soul reminding me that You are with me.
Thank You, Lord Jesus, for all the things that You have reinforced in my spirit that I know this day. You are indeed a great God! Glory to Your Name! Amen!
