This is what the LORD says— your Redeemer, the Holy One of Israel: “I am the LORD your God, who teaches you what is best for you, who directs you in the way you should go.”

Father God, You know me. I think I’m pretty smart. I think I can figure things out. Often, I believe that I don’t need anyone to get it done. Yet, when I came across this verse today it so reminded me of the many more times where I haven’t been so smart, when I couldn’t figure things out, when I found myself groping, trying to find someone – anyone – who could help me out. And it reminded me that You have always been there, that You have been my “making a way out of no way” God.
This morning I just want to say thank You, Lord. Thank You for always being there for me, not only showing me the way, but also always teaching me in the process what is best for me. Lord, this goes beyond the notion of helping me figure things out. My mind is reflecting on the reality that You lead me often into places I do not want to go, teaching me tough lessons that in the moment I don’t want to learn, and taking me through life circumstances I would rather avoid. Why? Because YOU know what’s best for me. You know the way I should go. You want my good.
So, Father, send my way what You believe is best for me. Teach me to slow down and listen to You and learn from You. Show me the path I should take, even if it in the moment does not feel or look to me like the right way to go. And prick my conscience and conviction my spirit when I start to get puffed up believing I know better. YOU are the LORD my GOD. You know what’s best for me. You direct me in the say I should go. Where You lead, I will follow. Amen.
