In the last days the mountain of the LORD’s temple will be established as the highest of the mountains; it will be exalted above the hills, and peoples will stream to it.
Micah 4:1 (NIV)
Lord Jesus, I’m unusually tired this morning. Not just the kind of tired that longs to press that snooze button for nine minutes more of sleep. It’s a kind of tired where I just feel like calling it quits, giving up, packing up my bags and going home. It’s the kind of tired that says, “I don’t wanna play anymore.” The airwaves are full of people fighting and bickering with each other. Battle lines are drawn between political parties where folks are being chastised for even speaking with folks on the other side. Communities are being devastated by natural and man-made disasters. Companies are oblivious to the impact that their policies and merchandise has on the communities they seek to service. And Your church is semi-silent to all the happenings, bickering amongst ourselves, missing the call to be a prophetic voice in a broken world. It almost feels like what’s the use?
You warned us about what these last days would be like (Matthew 24:4ff). You told us that many would turn away from the faith, that there would be a proliferation of injustice, that this divisiveness would be prevalent. But in the midst of all of this sinful chaos, You encouraged us to look up for our redemption draws near (Luke 21:28). You told us that these are but signs of Your soon return, that we are not like those who have no hope (1 Thessalonians 4:13). You have instilled within my heart the eternal hope of Your soon return. And my heart cries out today, “Even so, come Lord Jesus (Revelations 22:20)!”
Lord, I long for the manifestation of this image of You being established as King of the world, with all creation pouring into Zion to worship You. I long for a time where all will desire to be taught of Your ways (Micah 4:2), where Your righteousness and justice will be the norm and not a rarity (Micah 4:3), and there will be peace, true peace, on this earth (Micah 4:4).
So, as I plod along on this side of eternity, Help me to do my best to demonstrate Your love in a tangible way. Fill my heart that I might reflect Your love and glory towards others. I promise to tell anyone who listens about You, how good You are, and Your wonderful plans for our lives. I will worship You in every aspect of my being. Use me as a brick mason, slowly building Your glorious kingdom here on earth, that Your Kingdom might come and Your will might be done, on Earth as it is in Heaven, to Your glory. Amen.
