Now may the Lord of peace himself give you peace at all times in every way. The Lord be with you all. 2 Thessalonians 3:16 (ESV)
Lord Jesus, my soul comes before You this morning looking to You for that which only You can give. Though my body creaks with the agony of the years and my head and eyes weigh heavy longing for more rest, my soul is in a different place. Unlike other mornings where I have awaken with my mind immediately racing, preoccupied with the tasks at hand, running through what needs to be done today that carried over from the day before, right now I am just focused on one thing: peace. And not just any peace. Your peace; that peace that the Word declares passes all understanding (Philippians 4:7), that is perfected in my trust of You (Isaiah 26:3), that rules my heart (Colossians 3:15), and that comes from You (John 14:27). Your perfect peace.
So as I make my way through the ups and downs, the challenges and opportunities, the busyness and the activities of this day, I pray for Your peace to rule my heart and mind. Help me not to “sweat the small stuff.” Instead give me wisdom to rightly prioritize what is before me, and the humility to trust You to lead me and guide me in the way. Don’t allow me to be distracted in the moment but instead be measured in my response. But most importantly, remind me to keep my mind tuned into You, my eyes open looking for Your fingerprints, and my heart always seeking Your presence. For then, and then alone, will I have Your peace, which passes all understanding. Let it be for me to Your glory. Amen.
