Taste and see that the LORD is good; blessed is the one who takes refuge in him. Psalm 34:8 (NIV)
Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be filled. Matthew 5:6 (NIV)
Like newborn babies, crave pure spiritual milk, so that by it you may grow up in your salvation, now that you have tasted that the Lord is good. 1 Peter 2:2-3 (NIV)
Father God, this morning my soul longs for You. Even now, the words of Psalm 42 ring loud in my spirit, “As the deer pants for the water brooks, So pants my soul for You, O God. My soul thirsts for God, for the living God. When shall I come and appear before God?” That is my heart’s desire this day – to bask in Your presence!
As I read through Your Word this morning there was a satisfying sweetness that fed this deep seated ache in my soul. And like a newborn babe, I actually did not, in the moment, know what the ache was. At first I thought it was fatigue and my body longing for sleep. But as I started reading Your Word, in some sense going through the motions, before I knew it something stirred within me.
Honestly, I am used to that stirring. But today, You reminded me that my “ache” was the same as the unconscious cry of an infant desiring milk. They don’t know what they need in the moment. They only know they need something. It requires a wise parent to know to check their diaper or to feed them. And You are that all-wise Parent, seeing my soul’s need and giving me exactly what I need in the moment! Thank Father!
Today, I hungrily come to Your table and cry out, “Father feed me that I might want no more!” Satisfy this deep spiritual hunger that is welling up within my spirit this morning. I have tasted of Your goodness and Your mercy. I have feasted in Your presence. I know what it is to have my spirit satisfied by Your banquet. That, Father, is my soul’s desire this morning. I want to be in Your presence, to see my Savior, to be filled by Your Holy Spirit, and to rest in Your refuge. That’s what I long for!
My God, give me those sweet moments throughout this day! All day long let me eat from Your glorious table. Fill my soul with Your presence and my heart with Your Word! Thank You for loving me! Thank You for sending my beloved Jesus! Thank You for sealing me through Your Spirit! Thank You for satisfying my longings! Amen!
